Eating My Words

About Me

About Me

So, About Me

I am chef Kevin Penner and I cook food for people. I also provide consulting services for restaurants, food entrepreneurs, food start-ups, farmers and anyone else who wants to dive into the world of food and cooking.

I have been cooking professionally since the late 1980s and I have been working in the greater NYC/Long Island area since 1992 when I came to East Hampton to open Della Femina restaurant. I am the founding chef of the 1770 House and many other restaurants in recent years.

I have cooked at the James Beard House four times since 1996 and most recently in 2011. I have appeared on The Next Food Network Star, The Barefoot Contessa, The Best Thing I Ever Ate, FoodNation with Bobby Flay and other shows on the Food Network.

Newsday restaurant critic, Peter Gianotti, gave me three stars at three different restaurants (Della Femina, the Star Room & the 1770 House).

New York Post restaurant critic, Steve Cuozzo, gave me three stars at Della Femina-NYC.

New York Times-LI restaurant critic, Joanne Starkey, gave me reviews of “excellent” at Della Femina-EH and the Star Room.

Most recently, I have been cooking privately on the east end of Long Island for clients in the Hamptons, on the North Fork and in NYC and Connecticut.

I also provide cooking classes and food science education classes to people who are interested in learning more about food.

You can see me cooking with Ina Garten right here. Oh, and here. You can see Ina’s take on my meatloaf recipe here on her website. It’s one of Ina’s Favorite Dinners.
